Privacy Policy

This policy explains what Ashford City stores about you, why, and what we will never do with it. It is short because we collect little.

We do not train AI models on your data, and we never sell or trade it. Nothing you write here becomes training material for us, and we do not share your personal information with advertisers, data brokers, or anyone else looking to build a profile of you.

We count visits, and that is all we count. Google Analytics tells us how many people came, from which countries, and which parts of the city they opened. It sets a cookie that tells one visit from the next and reports the page and the button pressed, never what you write, your name or your email. Google’s advertising features are switched off, and there is no advertising here of any kind.

1. What we store

Your sign-in identity. When you sign in with a third-party provider, we store the identifier that provider gives us, and the email address and display name it shares. We never see or store your password.
Your invitation. Which invitation code you used, and when, so that each invitation is used once.
Your confirmations. The moment you confirmed your age and accepted the Terms.
A sign-in log. Sign-ins, sign-outs, registrations, and failed invitation attempts, with the IP address seen by our network provider. This exists to keep the door safe — to notice code-guessing and abuse — and for nothing else.
Your last visit. A timestamp, so the city knows whether you are still around.
A web server log. Like every web server, ours writes a line for each request it answers — the address it came from, the page asked for, and the result. Lines are discarded after two weeks. From them we keep only daily totals: how many people came, and from which countries. Nothing in those totals points at a person.
Analytics. Google Analytics records the pages you open and the buttons you press, with your country, browser and device, under a random cookie identifier. It does not receive your account, your name, your email or the text of anything you write. See the cookies section below.

When character creation and messaging become available, the character you create and the messages you exchange with it will also be stored, so that the city can remember them. This page will be updated before that happens.

2. Why we store it

To let you sign in and keep one account, to honour invitations, to keep the service secure, and to run the features you use. We do not build advertising profiles and we do not do behavioural tracking.

3. Who else is involved

Your identity provider (for example Google) handles the sign-in itself and knows that you signed in here.
Our network provider delivers the site and filters malicious traffic; it processes connection data such as IP addresses.
Google Analyticsreceives the visit data described above and processes it for us. Google uses your address only to work out the country and does not store it; we have switched off the advertising features and the sharing of this data with Google’s other products.
AI providers process the text you send inside the service in order to produce a reply. They act for us and for that purpose. We do not give them your data for training, and we do not authorise them to use it for their own purposes.

Beyond that, we do not share your personal information, except where the law compels us to.

4. Cookies

Three kinds. A session cookie that keeps you signed in, and a short cookie used during sign-in: both exist only so that an account works. And the Google Analytics cookies (_ga and _ga_…), which hold a random number that tells one visit from the next; they carry no name and are not used for advertising. There is no cookie banner here: if you would rather not be counted, a browser extension that blocks Google Analytics does exactly that, and the city works the same without it.

5. How long we keep it

Account data stays while your account exists. Sign-in log entries are kept for a limited period for security and then discarded. Ask us to delete your account and we will remove your account data; some entries may remain in backups for a short time until those backups age out.

6. Your choices

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for your account and its data to be deleted. Write to the contact below. You can also sign out at any time and stop using the service.

7. Children

Ashford City is for adults: you must be 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has an account here, tell us and we will remove it.

8. Security and location

Data lives on our own server, not in a third-party user database. Access is limited to the people running the project. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not promise that ours is.

9. Regional availability

The service is not offered in every region, and access from some regions is blocked.

10. Changes

If this policy changes, the new version appears on this page with a new “Last updated” date. Significant changes will be announced in the service before they take effect.

11. Contact

A contact address for privacy and account requests will be published here before Ashford City opens to the public. Until then, requests reach us through the person who sent you your invitation. For everything else there is the letterbox — it needs no address.
